"The End of the World" (unreleased song)

Hello! I have another recent addition to my voice memo folder on my phone for you today. Frequently I’ve been sharing songs that were written several years ago and never released…this on the contrary is one that was written just a week or two ago (upon timing of typing this) and is one that I very well may be interested in putting out someday in the future.

I have a google doc that is just one long list of different song ideas, words, phrases, and observations that have stuck with me for whatever reason, and may hold a sufficient enough supply of inspiration to be added to a song in some way, shape or form someday. I sat down recently with nothing particular on my mind and figured I’d just glance at the sheet for any possible subject that might jump out at me, and write for the sake of the exercise, not actually anticipating I’d write anything I’d find great value in.

The phrase my eyes laid upon was “the trend of preparing for the end of the world”.

I chuckle sometimes at what seems like the frequent discussion of the end of all things, because it feels equally overly dramatic and also completely possible. I have friends of friends who are learning how to build doomsday homes, so many songs and movies centered around the judgement day, etc…I feel both the need to tell everyone to chill the hell out…and also learn how to build my own doomsday home.

Sometimes though, it can almost feel like the discussion is more for the sake of following the trend of talking about how bad everything in the world is, but not for the sake of bringing actual awareness to any specific thing that’s desired to be changed. It all just feels like words sometimes, useless dialogue of such a big thing that renders that big thing meaningless. Which is unfortunate.

So anyway, I wanted to write a song that somehow encapsulated both energies…the energy of laughing at the people freaking out thinking the world is going to end tomorrow when it probably isn’t…while also trying to bring an emotional awareness to the subject that would hopefully inspire those who seriously think the world may end soon…to get up and be and example of the change that they want to see in the world.

It’s called “The End of the World” and the lyrics and voice memo can be found below. Thanks for being here and for listening:
