I’m online today to share another track from the voice memo vault on my phone, this time in the form of a song I wrote several weeks ago entitled “Always Fine”.

I, like the rest of the world, find myself witnessing the world through the palm of my hands on a daily basis. Both for the good, and for the bad. Bad news travels way faster so it’s important to try and make a conscious effort to ensure that the algorithm isn’t just feeding me depressing happenings all of the time…while also balancing the idea that I can’t swipe past atrocities when I see them because I need to be aware that they exist as well.

A recent atrocity was the bombing of Iran several weeks back. I’m not here to discuss the pros and cons of this attack and whether or not it was needed or necessary…the only idea I’m here to stand on is the notion that bombs are bad, and sending explosives in free fall towards the earth give me a horrible feeling, as they should everyone.

It was during this attack that a video was going viral of a rooftop somewhere in Israel I believe where there was a fancy dinner taking place, with a saxophone player, and in the night sky you could see the trails of bombs soaring through the dark. Several of the dinner attendees had their phones out and were videoing the occurrence, while the saxophone player belted out an incredible motif and provided a stark contrast of beauty to the destruction that was about to take place.

The saxophone player was the viral part of this video…but it’s not the part that effected me.

The part that struck me was the visual of 2-3 civilians in fancy clothes sitting on a rooftop videoing the bombing of another country with their phones.

It made me think of all of this content we see of the various destructions in the world everyday, and it made me think of all of the people I see online who preach about the positive perspective they’re able to maintain during times of injustice, horror, and inequality. I understand these inequalities have always existed but it’s the daily witnessing of it that is impossible to ignore, and sometimes I’m irked by the promotion of optimistic mindsets by those who live cozy lives.

I’m not saying it’s right to be sad all of the time, it’s definitely not and we all need to figure out a way to exist in this world we live in…it’s just a bit frustrating sometimes to see people who, at least online, seem to always be fine.

Thus, I wrote this song to articulate that feeling.
